Lymm RFC v Redruth RFC – Saturday 10th January 2026
Author: John Case

President’s Welcome
Dear Members, Guests, Sponsors and Friends of Lymm Rugby Club,
I hope you had a great Christmas break and my very best wishes to each and every one of you for 2026. I hope you achieve everything you wish for during the New Year !!
This weekend we enter round 15 of the 2025/26 season and with 14 games played so far, we are in 8th place, with 38 points from 7 wins plus 10 bonus points. Not where we were hoping or expecting to be at this point in the league calendar, but still with the opportunity to improve this position in the second half of the season.
Round 14 of the National 2 West league timetable on Saturday 20th December 2025 saw our 1st Team play away against Chester, the shortest journey of all our away games. As you will be aware, we lost 44 – 29 at the hands of a Chester side hell bent on gaining revenge for losing to Lymm on the previous three occasions. This defeat meant that Lymm have now suffered three consecutive defeats.
Chester’s intent was evident from the kick-off, and they scored inside 2 minutes. Although Lymm hit back within 3 minutes, with an unconverted try, they were always chasing the game after Chester scored three quick tries to establish a lead that effectively took the game out of reach of the Lymm side. To their credit, Lymm did score 5 tries to earn a league bonus point.
A full match report by Simon Plumb can be read on the club website via the following link;
Lymm 2s gained a creditable draw at home to Chester 2s, 24 – 24. Lymm Eagles had no game.
Although there were no senior matches at Beechwood over the Christmas break there was still a lot of activity, including;
“MADREFs v LooseHeadz” – we hosted this charity fixture on 28th December 2025. The event was a great success, with the Whistlers coming out on top 39-34. The game attracted an excellent crowd and raised over £2,000 for the LooseHeadz charity. Feedback from both participating organisations regarding the support and hospitality provided by our club was excellent, with a strong possibility that it will be repeated again at Beechwood.
“Sale Sharks Academy v Newcastle Red Bulls Academy” – we hosted 2 premier academy matches at Beechwood on Sunday 3rd January 2026. The Sale U18’s team won 31-17 and the Sale U17 team lost 22-40. Both games were very well attended, and once again the match day support and hospitality provided by our club was highlighted by many of the attendees.
Sale Sharks U18 will be playing on the Lymm AGP once again on Sunday 11th January 2026 against Saracens U18, KO 13.00.
“Welcome to Redruth RFC” – This weekend we welcome Redruth RFC to Beechwood for their first ever visit. The first and only fixture between our 2 clubs took place on the 20th September 2025 following the incredible 365 mile bike ride to Cornwall over a period of 4 days by the intrepid cyclist Paul Foulkes. This sponsored ride raised over £13,000 in support of our travelling costs in the West League and has been commented on by many opponents in the league.
Redruth took the honours from our first encounter with a close 26-22 victory. They are currently in 10th position in the league with 34 points, so a competitive and close encounter on Saturday is expected. Kick-off is 2.00pm
Lymm 2s have a tough fixture to start the New Year with an away fixture against Caldy 2s, who haven’t lost for a considerable time. I am sure that the team will step up to the mark and challenge for the win.
Lymm Eagles are away at Manchester Medics.
“Alan Cummins – Honorary President – Lymm RFC 1980 to 1985”
As you may already be aware, Alan Cummins passed away peacefully on Christmas day with his family by his side. As a mark of respect for this stalwart club member we will be holding a one-minute memorial applause in honour of Alan prior to kick off on Saturday. I would encourage you to be on the touchline 5 minutes before kick off to join in this mark of respect.
Details of Alan’s life and his association with Lymm RFC, written by Peter Cornelia, can be found on the club website at the following link.
