1st XV Away to Exeter University – Saturday 28th February 2026 KO 2pm
Author: John Case
The Lymm squad is going back to university this weekend as it travels down the M5 to play Exeter University. The two teams faced each other for the first time ever back in November when Lymm prevailed 48-40 in a topsy-turvy encounter.
With both teams now in the lower reaches of the league (Lymm 11th and Exeter 12th) and sucked into the relegation battle, this is certainly now a key game in both clubs’ season. Both teams have enjoyed a patchy season with neither really having delivered on early season promise or, indeed, been able to string together a consistent run of positive form and results. Indeed, Exeter’s record of 3 wins from the 9 matches since the start of December is only marginally better than Lymm’s 2 from 9 over the same period.
With home advantage and, potentially, a vast pool of players to call on, the bookies will no doubt have Exeter as slight favourites, but as we have seen so often this season the form book counts for little – and a close, tense contest is expected with – hopefully – kinder weather than prevailed at Lymm last Saturday!
The Lymm matchday squad shows 3 changes from last time out, with Tom Shard and Oli Higginson available again and Josh Maskery, returning from a 15-month injury lay-off, replacing injured skipper Nathan Beesley, Jack Stride and James Yates.
As they have done through the season Lymm will board the bus on Friday evening full of confidence and enthusiasm and ready to put in another full 80 minutes of commitment and hard work from 2:00 on Saturday.
The 2nd XV again have no game this Saturday, whilst Lymm Eagles are at home to Liverpool University Veterinarians KO 2:15pm
