1st XV Away to Loughborough Students – Saturday 17th January 2026 KICK OFF NOW 2pm
Author: John Case
Lymm’s first away fixture of 2026 takes them on the relatively short, by this season’s standards, 86-mile excursion to Loughborough, to play against Loughborough Students. When the two teams met at Crouchley Lane in September, they delivered a feast of running rugby with 87 points and 13 tries scored between them, in what was a fast-paced, frantic affair which, in the end, Lymm were somewhat relieved to win. Indeed, with Lymm’s 15 matches so far this season averaging 64 points scored and Loughborough’s 67, it would be a brave person who bet against a scoring rate of more than 1 point per minute on Saturday!
Lymm will travel in good spirits following their comeback win against Redruth last Saturday, whilst Loughborough will be reflecting on defeat at league leaders Camborne in a remarkable 18-try, 112-point encounter. With Lymm currently in 7th place in the league and Loughborough 13th, the odds would seem to favour Lymm but, as we well know, the depth and quality of the rugby talent available to the Students is extensive and something that most clubs envy. So, any result is entirely possible.
The Lymm squad for the match shows just 3 changes from the previous week with captain Nathan Beesley returning for his first runout since 8th November, and James Pitcher and Max Ure replacing the unavailable Rob Makin and Rhys Lilly.
