Lymm’s are back on the road to the East Midlands on Saturday to play Syston from Leicestershire.  Whilst Syston who were promoted to National 2, the highest level at which they have ever played last season, are currently at the foot of the league table this will be a far from straightforward fixture for Lymm.

Since the start of December, Lymm have struggled to accumulate league points resulting in a slide down the league table to their current 11th slot.  Having said that the middle of the table is extremely tight with 10 points covering 5th to 11th positions in the table – so a couple of wins for any team could significantly change these league rankings.

Lymm have played Syston 3 times previously in league fixtures – twice in the 2013/14 season and earlier this season.  On each occasion Lymm have prevailed, but the match at Crouchley Lane back in October was a real topsy turvy affair with an early Lymm 17-point lead, being transformed into a 17-26 halftime deficit as Syston got the coach journey out of their legs and hit their straps.  Lymm then recovered their composure outscoring their opponents by 4 tries to 1 in the second half and running out 52-36 winners.  However, Syston had shown considerable skill, fight and application in putting their hosts under pressure for large periods of the match.

When you add into the mix that Syston’s home results and performances throughout the season have been better than their away form – their 3 wins this season have all been at home, whilst the results against teams they have played both home and away have been much better on their own turf.  With the rain looking like it might take a break on Saturday, we are expecting good weather conditions for     rugby and hoping that the Syston pitch has not suffered too much in the recent deluge that has impacted much of the country.

The Lymm squad for the match shows 4 changes from last time out with Tom Elphick, Ben Thompson, Alfie Simpson and Andy Williams in for Rob Makin, Joe Higgins, Tom Shard and Lewis Stewart.

For those supporters unable to travel, the match will be livestreamed at Beechwood followed by the Scotland v England encounter.
