President’s Welcome

Dear Members, Guests, Sponsors and Friends of Lymm Rugby Club,

This weekend we enter round 13 of the 2025/26 season and with 12 games played so far, we are in 6th place, with 36 points from 7 wins plus 8 bonus points. A healthy and encouraging place to be as we approach the end of 2025, and the opportunity to improve this position in the second half of the season with a bit less travelling and some returnees from long term injuries in prospect..

Round 12 of the National 2 West league timetable saw our 1st Team play away against Barnstaple. Another long trip for the team and our travelling supporters, but only 494 miles round trip on this occasion.  Once again, we faced a team that we haven’t met at any level previously, but on the upside, there is certainly a positive element to these long distances; the opportunity to visit rugby clubs that demonstrate the same principles that we hold true in our club ethos and to meet their members who always make us feel welcome, irrespective of the scoreline. New friendships made!!

The conditions for this game could not have been much worse, a strong wind, heavy rain and poor conditions underfoot.  Yet once again, Lymm showed their resilience to come away with a bonus point.  We did have our chances late on to perhaps snatch a draw, but things didn’t quite go our way.  It was great to see Cormac Nolan rewarded for his patience and commitment by returning from injury to 1st team action after what has been a lay off of more than 2 years. Well done Cormac!

This loss drops Lymm from 4th to 6th in the league, but the league table is so tightly bunched in the middle that a win or a loss could mean a significant movement up or down.  It is worth noting that we have now played all of the 5 teams above us in the league away from home, so they have all yet to come to Beechwood.  We can look forward to some great battles in the New Year.

Barnstaple 19 – 12 Lymm

Our second team game at home against Sedgley Park was postponed, whilst Lymm 3s lost at home to Stockport 3s 21-30.

Welcome to Cinderford – This weekend we welcome Cinderford RFC from the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire to Beechwood for another ‘first encounter’ with a team in the West league. Cinderford have a long history in Rugby having been formed in 1883. More recently they had been regulars at Level 3 for a number of years but were relegated to Level 4 in 2015/16 only to be promoted back to National League 1 in 2017/18.  They looked well set at that level with mainly mid-table finishes until a poor end to the 2023/4 season saw them come down to National League 2.  This season has seen them invest and build their own AGP at the Bell Sports and Rugby Park so they will be used to the surface at Beechwood.

Cinderford travel up in confident mood, having lost narrowly to top of the table Camborne last Saturday.  They are only 2 places and 2 league points behind Lymm, so another epic game is on the cards.  Please come along and support the team.  Kick-off is 2.30pm

Unfortunately, once again I am unable to attend this week’s pre-match lunch in person, but I have secured the services of past President Varun Maharaj, to welcome Martyn Walby, Cinderford Chairman, and his fellow Cinderford members and supporters to Beechwood. We do hope you enjoy your time at Beechwood. I will be attending to watch the game and plan to be back on duty for the Chester game on 20th December 2025.

Pat Stoor  – RIP

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I have to share the news that Pat Stoor, a renowned local teacher and artist and a long-time member and supporter of Lymm Rugby Club, sadly passed away on Friday 5th December 2025.

Pat will be remembered for her generosity and kindness, and her incredible ability as an artist. In September 2025 we launched the sale of “Images of Beechwood”, a set of pictures painted by Pat over a period of 10 years from 1994 to 2004 that reflect the history of our iconic club house and the wonderful game of rugby that is played here, all captured in beautiful water colours.

More details about “Images of Beechwood” can be found at;

Images 0f Beechwood

Pat will also be remembered for her unstinting work in support of our annual Panto and summer Vaudeville shows. Her work created a multitude of incredible pieces of scenery including, the Giants Castle,  Jack’s Beanstalk, London Street Scene, and Scrooge’s Office, to name but a few, all on “Sharks Tooth Gauze” a material synonymous with theatres, and which provided incredible backdrops to complement the brilliance of our on-stage performances. The majority of these backdrops have been carefully preserved and still exist today; you may see them in the future if you attend the Panto!

On behalf of Lymm Rugby Club I would like to pass our sincere condolences to Pat’s family at this very sad and difficult time.
