Lymm RFC v Exeter University RFC – Saturday 8th November 2025
Author: John Case

President’s Welcome
Dear Members, Guests, Sponsors and Friends of Lymm Rugby Club,
This weekend we enter round 9 of the 2025/26 season and with 8 games played so far, we are in 6th place, with 25 points from 5 wins plus 5 bonus points. So far, we have played 5 games away from home and 3 games at our beloved Beechwood!
Sixth place is a great achievement to be very proud of at this stage of the season and this has been driven by the total commitment demonstrated by our players, our coaching staff, and our overall membership. It has been a fantastic experience for me as the club President to travel with the team on the long coach trips that we have to undertake and to see so many club members following the team to these away fixtures. It is also great to see the traditions that I experienced on away coach trips during my time as a 1st Team player at Lymm still exist today – fun, frolics and lots of singing – some good and some not so good! But as they say, ‘what goes on tour stays on tour ‘!!
My continued thanks on behalf of Lymm RFC to all our players, our coaches, and their families for their continued commitment to Lymm Rugby Club.
Round 8 of the National 2 West league timetable saw our first team play away against Old Redcliffians from Brislington, near Bristol. Once again in the West league, our first encounter with a club that we have not played previously. A very tough game from start to finish saw Lymm take the honours with a bonus point win – a fantastic and well-deserved outcome.

Last weekend our first team had a break from their league commitments with a game-free weekend and hopefully they all enjoyed the well earned rest to recharged their batteries.
Our second team had a tough Cup game at home to Stockport 2s. Earlier in the season, Stockport 2s had edged a high scoring game at Beechwood, so Lymm knew they were in for a tough game. As it turned out, this was another game where both sides attacking ability dominated the proceedings. However, on this occasion, the young Lymm side prevailed, and now go on to play Fylde 2s away in the quarter finals in February.

Welcome to Exeter University – This weekend we welcome Exeter University to Beechwood for another ‘first encounter’ with a team in the West league. Exeter University were promoted from the South West Premier League to National League 2 West in 2022. This is the highest level that they have played in the England Rugby Pyramid and it provides their players with the opportunity to gain high-level rugby experience during their time at University.
I look forward to welcoming Will Katene, Hannah Burton, Sammy Erskine, Steve Holmes and all their members who attend the game on Saturday, I do hope you enjoy your time at Beechwood.
Lymm 2s have no game this Saturday and Lymm 3s are away at Liverpool University Veterinarians. My very best wishes and good luck to all teams throughout our club who have games this weekend.
Images of Beechwood – At the end of September we released a set of 4 watercolour prints by renown local artist, Pat Stoor. These images are now available both on-line and over the bar at Beechwood. Please support our club by securing your own copy of these ‘Images of Beechwood’.
