It has been a privilege to work alongside Adam Fletcher, affectionately known as Fletch, during my tenure as Chairman. His journey is the ultimate club success story—rising through our Minis and Juniors to become a cornerstone of the first team, playing over 150 games. As he prepares to stand down as Director of Rugby at the end of this season, we celebrate a leader who truly understands our club’s DNA. A defining highlight of his 12 seasons at the helm was leading the squad to promotion to National Two. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that, as a purely amateur club, Fletch and his team have managed to be highly competitive in the fourth tier of the rugby pyramid. This success is rooted in our ambition to be the most professional amateur club in the country—a standard Fletch has lived and breathed every day.Throughout this journey, Fletch has been supported by a loyal and dedicated coaching team. He would be the first to say that their collective hard work and shared vision have been vital. Crucially, the majority of this coaching team are homegrown, mirroring Fletch’s own path through the club. This shared history ensures that from the 2nd Team and the 3rds to the Junior and Senior Colts, every player now plays the “Lymm Way,” creating a seamless pathway that Fletch has championed throughout his tenure.
Looking ahead, Fletch is currently working closely with the club to finalise the new coaching setup for next season. We expect to share more details on the new structure in the coming weeks as we prepare for this next chapter. To everyone who follows the team from the touchline each Saturday, Fletch has been the heartbeat of our progress. While he is officially stepping away, we know it will be difficult for him to stay away completely, and I’m sure we will all welcome his continued input in the coming seasons—though he’ll certainly need the permission of his wife, Rachel, and his two girls first!
Please join us at Beechwood for his final game, against Luctonians on 25th April. I invite all of you to come along and show your support; hopefully, we can finish his incredible 12-year tenure with a home win. Let’s ensure we give this club legend the send-off he deserves.
David Simpson – Chairman
“A sad day for Lymm rugby club as a true legend decides to step away. Fletch has been an unbelievable servant to the club, through his time as a M&J’s player, Senior player, Head Coach and Director of Rugby. He has been the driving force in building a culture at the club which has seen it reach and sustain its highest ever level of rugby. Fletch will leave a huge void and his shoes truly irreplaceable, as his knowledge and love of the club is matched by few and far between. Happy retirement mate.”
