Lymm 2nd XV 36 – 31 Sale FC Vikings

We were informed that Sale Vikings are now part of of the Sale FC Senior Men’s Squad and have been training with them pre season. This is a sensible move for them, to ensure they have squad players ready to step up to their tough, National League One fixture programme.
With the 1st XV playing away at Luctonianns and the forecast rain failing to arrive, a sizeable crowd witnessed a high scoring and entertaing game with Lymm just holding out to take the points.
At half-time, Lymm were 24 -7 in front with tries from Danny Senior, Will Day, Lewis Stewart and Logan Byrne. Andy Rowley kicking two conversions.
Sale were very much in the game and scored a converted try after 16 minutes to draw level at 7 -7 They crossed the Lymm line twice more but a foot in touch and being held up ruled out the scores.

From the restart, for 16 minutes it was all Sale as they scored 3 tries and 2 conversions to take the lead 24 – 26. Their influential scrum half had a great influence on this come back and must be challenging for a 1st team place. However, Lymm regrouped and tries by Andy Rowley and Joe Heaton, Rowley converting one, restored their lead, 36 – 26 with 20 minutes of the half remaining.
Both sides had further try scoring opportunities as play moved from end to end. Lymm were down to 14 men and it was Sale who finally scored an unconverted try.. Lymm organised their defence and held on to their narrow lead to make the final score 36 – 31.

Coach, Toby Philips commented that he was pleased with the teams performance.
‘The Vikings are now Sale FCs 2nd XV and 5 or 6 of their squad had regular 1st XV experience and were returning from injuries. Others are making strong claims for 1st XV consideration.’
He nominated back row, No. 6, Harry Wasdell as Lymm’s MoM with special mentions for No. 11, winger, Will Day, No. 10, fly half, Matty Hope and No. 15, full back, Joe Heaton.
Next Saturday Lymm 2nd XV are away at Chester.
