Senior Colts Match Report | Sunday September 4 2022

The first Sunday of the new season saw the Senior Colts drawn at home to Preston Grasshoppers. Preston were a regular on the fixture list but for various reasons Lymm have not played them since Under 14’s, so they were now a bit of an unknown quantity.

On what turned out to be a rather warm humid afternoon with a strong wind blowing down the pitch a very good game of rugby was played. Lymm had been having pre-season training, but due to holidays and the notorious ‘Leeds Festival’ they had not trained or played together in numbers since July.

In an entertaining game played with passion and phyicality, with both teams prepared to keep the ball in hand, rather than kicking and very strong forward play. Lymm had the edge in the set pieces and eventually ran out comfortable winners scoring 9 tries.

Senior Colts Head Coach Willis Mungai commented:

“I’m particularly pleased with their confidence in applying some of the game moves that we’ve been working on during pre-season training. The Academy training programme mirrors that of the 1stXV and it is rewarding to see how well they are developing.

“A promising start for the lads to build on. Next week they are away at Manchester, who also won their opening game”.

Irrespective of the result, this picture below pretty much sums up our game and the respect we have for each other. This occurred on the halfway line whilst a conversion was being taken late in the 2nd half:

Try scorers:

Hamish Scott-Herron, Will Day (2), Etienne Hilton, Alex Mukherjee, Ben Youlden-Cole (2), Jacob Mungai and Charlie Yeomans

Will Day also scored 5 conversions.
