Lymm Senior Colts 24 – 17 Whitchurch Senior Colts

Senior Colts Match Report | Sunday September 21 2025

Following the monsoon like weather on Saturday, the skies cleared and the sun shone down on Crouchley Lane on Sunday where Lymm welcomed Whitchurch in the NW Senior Colts League.

The games between us are always closely fought affairs and this was to be no exception. This was Lymm’s third league game of the season and hopes were high for a home win.

Lymm kicked off to Whitchurch and were defending the clubhouse end. The home team were quick to recover possession and were soon in the opposition’s twenty two. Several phases of play followed with solid carries which set up a good field position within the visitors twenty two leading to Jack Griffin getting over the line to score out wide. Despite the wide angle, Matty Harrison converted to give Lymm a 7-0 lead.

The game restarted and both sides created attacking opportunities, however this time it was Whitchurch’s turn to score in the opposite corner after some strong carries of their own despite Lymm’s dogged defence. The conversion was unsuccessful however.

Lymm responded well and following some more powerful drives up field by several players, Rory Brook was there to get over the line in almost the same place as the previous try. Once more Matty Harrison converted a difficult kick and Lymm were up 14-5 and in control.

Whitchurch however were very much in the game and had some good passages of play which led to another score for the visitors which they took well to the left of the posts. The conversion was missed – Lymm narrowly ahead 14-10.

With the half time break approaching, the Lymm team pushed hard to extend their lead. They moved the ball well and had some success in the wider channels. Lymm were held up a few metres from the Whitchurch line when Toby Neal took the opportunity to beat the scrambling defence and score in the corner. The conversion slipped wide and the half time whistle blew.

Half Time: Lymm 19 – 10 Whitchurch

Lymm made three substitutions and the fresh players were straight into the attack. Attacking towards the clubhouse, the Lymm back line moved the ball beautifully from one touch line to the other with pace and precision which was finished off by Duncan Waiswa who beat his man on the outside and scored to the right of the posts however this time the conversion didn’t go over.

With a 14 point lead Lymm were made to work hard for the remainder of the game with Whitchurch not letting up. They got their reward when they managed a try of their own which was duly converted. The gap was down to seven with ten minutes remaining.

This proved to be the final score of the game, but the final minutes didn’t lack excitement. Both sides attacking freely only to be kept out by staunch defending on both sides. The win was finally secured when Lymm managed three critical turnovers to relieve the pressure and clear their lines.

Full Time: Lymm 24 – 17 Whitchurch
