Lymm RFC v Hinckley RFC – Saturday 31st January 2026
Author: John Case

President’s Welcome
Dear Members, Guests, Sponsors and Friends of Lymm Rugby Club,
This weekend we enter round 18 of the 2025/26 season and with 17 games played we are still in 8th place with a total of 45 points, 32 points from 8 wins plus 13 bonus points. There is a still a very strong desire within the squad to improve this position and a visible commitment to make this happen.
Round 17 of the league timetable saw our 1st Team at home last weekend against top of the league Camborne. Once again Lymm left it too late in their attempt to overcome a poor start to the game. Although the half-time score was only 17 – 0, it soon to become 24 – 0 early in the second half. The opposition were made of much sterner stuff than the previous weeks, providing proof of their top of the table position, and although we never really looked like we were going to get the better of our Cornish visitors, we did at lease recover enough to score four tries in the second half, and earn ourselves an important bonus point.
Congratulations to Club captain, Nathan Beesley who made it to 100 1st team appearances last week. Nathan has had a bit of a wait given he has missed a number of games this season through injury and a Christmas break ‘Downunder’. It’s great to have you back playing Nathan and well done on reaching this milestone.

Lymm 2s lost away at Stockport 2s, 24 – 17, after having a man sent off after five minutes. Lymm 3s had no game.
Argentinian U18’s touring team visit Beechwood – On Tuesday evening we were delighted to welcome Club Atletico Belgrano U17-U19s from Buenos Aires to Crouchley Lane. 120 boys and their coaches on a UK tour were warmly welcomed at the club despite the cold and windy conditions.
The game was played in a fantastic spirit with the visitors strong and physical and Lymm matching them throughout. At Half time Lymm had scored 3 tries to the visitors 2 and led 17-12.
Belgrano started the 2nd half strongly and scored 2 tries in quick succession. Lymm responded strongly however and both teams exchanged further scores. With the clock approaching full time, our visitors got over for a well worked score in the corner and Lymm’s lead was cut to 4 points. From the kick off however, Lymm pressed hard for a further score and were rewarded with a final try at the whistle.
Final score: Lymm RFC U18s 36 – 27 Atletico Belgrano U18s
What a fantastic example of the spirit of rugby and how it can bring people together from different parts of the world. Thanks to Atletico Belgrano for a fantastic game and you will always be welcome back at Lymm RFC.
“Welcome to Hinckley RFC” – This Saturday, we welcome Hinkley RFC to Beechwood, not for their first ever visit, as with many of the sides we play in the West League, but for their second visit following an encounter in November 2013 when both teams were in the Midlands division. On that occasion Hinkley took the honours with a 42-7 win, helping their 3 – 0 lead in terms of games won.
We certainly need a win on Saturday to give ourselves a confidence boost going in to the final third of the season, and also to remove any chance of being dragged in to a relegation battle – only 9 points separate 4th and 11th place in the table so a win can have a very positive impact on the year end results.
This game also marks two milestones:
James Yates (2nd Row Forward) will make his 150th appearance for Lymm and Rob Makin (Hooker) will be making his 100th appearance. A great achievment.
Your support, as always, would be much appreciated. Kick-off is 2.30pm
Lymm 2s have no game, and Lymm 3s are away at Northwich 2s.
Ladies Lunch – update
Women make up 32% of our membership, across Rugby, Tennis and Squash and yet are often unrepresented within the club.
Ahead of our 1st XV home game on Saturday 21st February, we’re hosting a Ladies Pre-Match Lunch – a chance to come together, celebrate women in sport, and enjoy a brilliant afternoon at the club. This lunch is all about bringing more women into our Club community, shining a light on the importance of girls’ and women’s sport locally, and showing our support for our teams – whether you’re a mum, auntie, sister, player, or supporter from rugby, squash, tennis, touch rugby (or all of the above!).
Interest in this event has been excellent and we only have a few tickets left. We’d love you to join us and be part of a fantastic afternoon celebrating women, sport, and our club.
If you would like to join the fun, please contact either Aimee via email at aimeecartwright1998@gmail.com or Colette via her mobile phone on 07596 938839
I hope we have a large and vocal crowd at Beechwood on Saturday and have the opportunity to see some fantastic rugby. Please do come and enjoy the atmosphere and hospitality at Beechwood!
Best Regards
John Cartwright (JC), President
