President’s Welcome

Dear Members, Guests, Sponsors and Friends of Lymm Rugby Club,

Welcome to Hornets RFC: This weekend we welcome Hornets RFC to Beechwood, for our 3rd encounter in the National 2 West league.

Hornets are based in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset and were formed in 1962. Probably one of the only teams in our current league who, as a rugby club, are younger than we are! They run 3 senior teams, a ladies team and a full range of junior teams. Their first XV was promoted into the National 2 league from the South West Premiere in 2022, one season before Lymm were promoted into the National 2 leagues. Hornets have an impressive history of achievements over the years and continue to be a community focused rugby club. They are committed to fostering rugby at all levels, from youth to senior teams. As we have seen with many of our opponents, I am sure you will agree from this short overview, there are a lot of similarities between our two clubs.

Hornets have had a similar start to the current season as we have and are one place behind Lymm in the table, Lymm 8th, Hornets 9th, with a 5-point gap between us. Both sides will be eager to secure 5 points from Saturday’s game, so I fully expect we will see a well fought and exciting game with both sides fully committed to achieve the win.

I very much look forward to welcoming Lee Hutchinson, Hornets Chairman and their travelling support to Beechwood on Saturday.

Our 1st team game will be preceded by a curtain raiser between Lymm U11’s and Warrington U11’s with a KO at 12:45pm.

The 1st team players will be welcomed on to the pitch before kick-off by an M&J Guard of Honour.

Please do come and support our U11’s and add to the noise and excitement raised during our 1st team game!!

Sports Vlogger SkyRugby; This weekend we are joined by Sean Conroy from SkyRugby, a social media platform that showcases content related to Rugby, including highlights, player stories, and updates from the rugby world. The platform aims to present fans with engaging content and is active on platforms like TikTok. Watch out for details of our story from Beechwood this weekend.

Our last run out in Round 7 against Redruth was a very disappointing home result for Lymm.  Although Redruth were unbeaten and top of the league at the start of the game, you could argue that there was not that much between the two teams during the game, and in some ways the score line flattered the visitors.

However, Lymm’s discipline let them down, especially after getting off to a good start and putting a lot of pressure on Redruth’s tryline.  A couple of free kicks awarded to Redruth, which were then upgraded to penalties because of dissent, gave Redruth the impetus to get themselves into the game.  Redruth ran out worthy winners, and are looking like strong contenders to finish top of the table by the end of the season.

Saturday 24th October 2026; Lymm 2’s won at home against previously unbeaten Sale FC Vikings, 28-7. Lymm Eagles also secured a win at home against Glossop 2’s, 45-15.This weekend Lymm 2’s are away at Stockport and Lymm Eagles are home to Heaton Moore.

Good luck and my best wishes to all Lymm teams this weekend – you are a tremendous group of players who are maintaining the pride and aspirations of our great club that has been developed over many years. Keep it going!!!
