President’s Welcome

Dear Members, Guests, Sponsors and Friends of Lymm Rugby Club,

Welcome to Redruth Rugby Club – This weekend we welcome Redruth to Beechwood for their second visit here in National 2 and their longest away trip of the season, a 650-mile round trip with an overnight stop to boot. We know only too well the impact that this level of travel has on the players specifically, and on a club generally, so we can sympathise with those travelling to Cheshire from Cornwall for the match on Saturday.

Hopefully, the RFU will find a better way to implement a league structure at National 2 for the future, and one that recognises a more effective geographical arrangement and puts player welfare and club sustainability to the fore – I won’t hold my breath !!

Redruth RFC was founded in the autumn of 1875, and their first ground was a field provided free of charge by the local brewery. It was one of several Cornish clubs founded in the 1870s by men who had learned the game while at public school. In season 2024/25 Redruth celebrated its 150th anniversary and became the Cornish club with the longest, continuous history.

For those who are interested you can read a full history of Redruth RFC at the following link HERE

Redruth have had an excellent start to their season with 6 wins and 29  league points which puts them at the top of the league, only 1 point off the maximum possible at this stage of the season. There is no doubt that Saturday’s game will be a tough one, but I am sure that our players will come out fighting following the disappointing  loss at Taunton last week.I very much look forward to welcoming Ralph Tregonning, Redruth’s new President and their travelling support to Beechwood on Saturday.

As we approach Round 7 of the 2026/27 season, we are in 6th place with 22 points: 16 points from 4 wins plus 6 bonus points.

Lymm v Taunton –  Although a tough game was anticipated last weekend, the outcome was definitely not the score line that most of the Lymm supporters expected. It is a result that the coaching staff and players are extremely unhappy with and are determined to put right.

A full match report by Dave Fernyhough can be read on the club website via the following link HERE

Lymm 2’s also had a tough day on the park at Sedgley last week, where they lost 71-7. Player injuries and availability contributed to this significant loss. Lymm Eagles saved the day with a convincing 57-31win away at top of the table Manchester Medics.

This weekend Lymm 2s are away at Fylde 2s in the 1st round of their cup competition. The game is also being played as a league fixture.  The Eagles are at home against Winnington Park 2’s in a league cup game, KO  at 15.00.

The Lymm Panto – Lymm Rugby Club produces the world famous ‘Lymm Panto’, celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2026, with ‘Snow White and the Magnificent Seven!’

The Panto is a major fundraising effort, supported by volunteer members, with 10 performances over 3 weekends in late November and early December and deemed a ‘must see’ adult show attracting audience members from all over the UK.

Tickets are selling fast, but they are still available by visiting the Club website. BOOK HERE

Lymm Rugby Club Summer Raffle – Thank you to everyone who supported our summer raffle by buying tickets and to all those who donated some fantastic prizes. Your support for Lymm RFC is very much appreciated.

The raffle closed last weekend, and all prize winners have been notified. Details of the prizes and who won them will be posted on the website in due course.

I hope we have a large and vocal crowd at Beechwood on Saturday with the opportunity to see some fantastic rugby. Please do come and enjoy the atmosphere and hospitality at Beechwood!

Best Regards
