Lymm entertained Blackburn in a top of the table clash hoping to repeat the victory in the Cup earlier in the season. They welcomed back James Yates who has rejoined the Club after his charity work educating the South! Conditions were dry underfoot with a slight breeze away from the Clubhouse.

Lymm kicked off with the breeze behind them and Blackburn immediately took the game to Lymm driving up the pitch and a missed tackle 40 metres out resulted in them scoring a converted try. Lymm responded well by driving hard up the pitch with Alfie Simpson moving the ball around. It was after a penalty that Lymm kicked to the corner and an excellent catch and drive ended with James Lewis touching down for an unconverted try. Lymm stormed back pounding away at Blackburn but their defence, as it did most of the game, repelled Lymm and they broke out scoring a try, again the result weak tackling.

Blackburn looked dangerous when they had the ball and always made ground, as Lymm struggled to contain their runners. However it was Lymm who scored next when Blackburn tried to move the ball down the backs in their 22 and George Norman intercepted to score a converted try. However Blackburn went on the attack again creating an overlap and scored another try assisted by weak Lymm tackling. Lymm finished the half with a penalty by Josh Davies. That was the final score of the half which had seen Lymm pounding away at a strong defence and Blackburn always dangerous in possession.

Ht 15-19

The first ten minutes of the second half would be vital and it was Blackburn who dominated. They scored two converted tries one from 80 metres to seal the game. Lymm battled hard for the rest of the game but Blackburn always had the upper hand, taking their chances well. However Lymm did have the final say when Tom Baker wriggled over from short range to score an unconverted try.

Ft 20-45

Blackburn deserved to win as they played a very controlled game, retaining possession well and defending ferociously. Lymm played with a lot of passion and effort but were second best on the day. The return at Blackburn should be another good game. In the forwards James Lewis and James Yates never stopped working with George Norman showing glimpses of his running talent, when the opportunity allowed in the backs.There is no 2nd team game next week.
