Presidents Welcome to this Saturdays Visitors – Otley

Author: Neil Kelly

It will be a very warm welcome to our visitors from the “other side” of the Pennines on Saturday. Not only will they have successfully transcended the highest UK motorway point but they also sit on top of the table, with an unbeaten record of played 6 won 6 and an impressive 29 points, just one short of the maximum. On the way to this position they have beaten promotion rivals Macclesfield, Preston Grasshoppers and Billingham.

To my knowledge this is the first meeting of the sides, though a certain member of the Lymm Ali’s has a particular reason to be extremely fond of the Otley ground as the venue for the famous victory of the North over the All Blacks in 1979. I suspect the crowd may be slightly less in number on Saturday, but I hope as every bit as partisan and able to lift the Lymm side for what would be a memorable win against the current league leaders. Kick-off is 3pm.

Lymm return to Beechwood on the back of two away games, Alnwick, and Northwich, and whilst we experienced “mixed fortunes” on our travels it was pleasing to see us return to winning ways last weekend with some scintillating rugby. Sadly, Kieron Hughes received a rather nasty bicep injury which looks like it may have him side-lined for the rest of the season. We wish him well for a speedy recovery.

An excellent win at home for the second team last week against a very strong Sedgley Park team. Well done to all involved. The 2nds travel to the Wirral on Saturday to play Caldy 2nds.

Lymm Eagles for the second week running have no game.

Finally, Panto season is almost upon us, oh yes it is!!!, so please make sure to visit the web site for details of how to obtain your tickets for this years version of “Aladdin Lymm”.
