Lymm travelled to Chester with a weakened, bare 15 side, knowing that the home side would be out for revenge after their defeat at Lymm earlier in the season. The match was played on the grass pitch over the bridge as their AGP was being used by their first team. It was playable although heavy under foot.

Chester kicked off and immediately regained possession and went through many phases before they opened the scoring with an unconverted try. It was obvious they were intent on starting well and their big forwards gained ground easily against some poor defence. They continued to dominate both possession and territory, scoring at will as Lymm were stuck in the headlights like a rabbit. Half time came and it gave an opportunity for Lymm to regroup.

From the restart, Lymm battled away and improved their play scoring a try from 60 metres, when a Chester attack broke down and John Long put the speedster Alex Hickman away for a converted try. However, Chester had the final say as they completed the scoring against a tiring Lymm.

You had to say that Chester were very impressive, big, strong and fast, and the Lymm side couldn’t cope with the physicality. When all are available, Lymm have a good squad of players that are able to compete in this tough league against the 2^nd teams of National League clubs. They are currently 3^rd in the table. It was a bad day at the office on Saturday and staff shortages didn’t help but they’ll dust themselves down and reenergise for next week’s home encounter with top of the table Caldy, KO 3pm. These players are good players and I know they will turn up next week and give there all but we need their missing colleagues to commit themselves and step up each week.
